Roger breezed passed Tommy Haas

Roger Federer overcame a slow start to defeat fellow veteran Tommy Haas in the third round of the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati.

World No.5 Federer, the defending champion and a five-time winner of this Masters 1000 series event, prevailed 1-6 7-5 6-3 in an hour and 52 minutes and will play either Rafael Nadal or Grigor Dimitrov in the quarter-finals.
Federer, who has struggled for form this year, was broken twice on the way to dropping the opening set in quick time and surrendered his delivery again early in the second set.

But the Swiss recovered just in time, breaking twice to pull the second set out of the fire and once more in the decider to improve his career record against his good friend Haas to 12-3.
"I wasn't playing great in the first set, I needed to clean up my game from the baseline," said Federer. "I'm happy to be through to have another match.
"Sometimes on fast courts it's tough to get rhythm, you are thinking of too many things. I had to simplify my game in order to win."

World No.1 Novak Djokovic had no such problems in his third-round encounter, brushing aside qualifier David Goffin 6-2 6-0 in 50 minutes.
"Even though the scoreline says it was quite straightforward, it's still it's never easy," Djokovic was quoted on the ATP World Tour's official website.
"You need to work for your wins and points. That was kind of the mindset I had today before I came to the court. I wanted to just play from the first to last point committed and just aggressive, and I did well."
Djokovic will take on John Isner in the last eight after the American saw off 12th seed Milos Raonis 7-6 (7/5) 6-4.
Seventh seed Juan Martin del Potro beat Spain's Feliciano Lopez in three sets to book a quarter-final against Dimtry Tursunov, who claimed the scalp of third seed David Ferrer by a 6-2 6-4 scoreline.
